Registration of Dutch Child

As soon as a Dutch child is born in Iran, please register with our Embassy within 30 days after the birth of the child.

You may do so by submitting the following documents:

  • Passports of both parents
  • Marriage certificate;
  • Birth declaration from attending doctor or hospital.

Passport

If the child is Dutch by birth, it may be included in one or both of the parent’s passports. The Embassy recommends to have a passport issued for the child should you travel outside Holland regularly.

To apply for a passport, please bring:

  • Passports parents
  • Consent in writing from both parents for issuance of passport (may also be done by both signing passport application form)
  • original marriage certificate. If not married in The Netherlands, the certificate needs to be translated and legalised.
  • To include the child in one of the parent’s passports, the passport application should be filled out in the name of that parent.
  • Two color photo’s according to Fotomatrix model

The Embassy recommends you to register the birth certificate in Holland with:

Dienst Burgerzaken

Bureau Bijzondere Akten van de Gemeente van ’s-Gravenhage

Postbus 12.620

2500 DL DEN HAAG.

You may do so to avoid extra expenses and having to contact this Embassy should you need a copy of the certificate in the future.

Please mind the following information carefully:

Children born in Iran from non-Iranian parents can not obtain a legal birth certificate from the authorities. Children born in Iran from an Iranian mother and non-Iranian father do not receive the Iranian nationality and can not obtain a legal birth certificate from the Iranian authorities.

In those cases, the Embassy will issue a a consular birth certificate, so that the child may apply for a Netherlands passport to leave Iran.

As the Embassy consular birth certificate is already an official Dutch document it is not possible to register this birth with the municipality of The Hague.

Copies of the consular birth certificate for future use may be obtained through the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Children with a dual nationality born (born from Iranian father and non-Iranian mother) in Iran may leave Iran on their Iranian passport. The Embassy can either issue a Dutch passport (with or without visa) and/or a statement of nationality which will facilitate entrance into the Netherlands. For this category it is important to travel with or submit a duly legalised birth certificate for registration in the Netherlands.
